-
Encourage curiosity: Ask open-ended questions (ones that require more than yes and no responses) and provide access to books if possible. We have available books if you are interested and have an awesome public library.
-
Participate in activities: Engage in STREAM-related activities at home, such as science experiments, art projects, or coding games.
-
Involve the whole family: Plan a pizza and STREAM night at home. Make it special.
-
Promote reading: Encourage regular reading to enhance literacy skills. Let your child see you read as well.
-
Support the arts: Expose your child to different forms of artistic expression, such as music, poetry reading, theater, dance, and visual arts.
-
Reinforce learning concepts: Help your child understand difficult concepts or engage in discussions related to the subjects being studied.
-
Balance technology: Limit your child’s screen time. Utilize educational technology during permitted screen time.
-
Engage fully: Put away your own technology and talk to your child.
-
Encourage trying: Let your child work through challenges. Failure is okay–giving up is not. The more he or she understands it is okay to fail–and try again–the more confident he or she will become to take learning risks.
-
Build community: Connect with other families and STREAM together. Take a virtual or in-person field trip. Try new foods. Learn about the beauty in other cultures and languages.
-
Connect the math: Share how often you are using math each day (cooking/baking, grocery shopping, getting gas, checking mileage/distance , measuring).
